The essay can create connection with an applicant when highlighting an aspect of an applicant that isn’t represented elsewhere. Many students struggle with how to appropriately represent their life stories. And then, they discover that instead of one essay, the universities require several.

Single Essay

Sometimes all that’s needed is someone to guide a student through the writing process for a single essay. Typically this is an essay that will be used for the Common App or the personal statement.

Depending upon the purpose of the essay, the student will be guided through either a mapping exercise or a collection of activities that reveal the student’s experiences or thoughts, each highlighting a component of the student.

If desired, we can jointly we’ll decide which essay topic best complements the existing aspects of the application. Once written, the student will receive at least three rounds of comprehensive feedback beginning with broad concepts and moving toward more specific corrections and modifications.

The university application essay is an opportunity to allow a key aspect of one’s life experience to shine. It is vital this essay is a refined piece while maintaining the student’s voice.

Multiple Essays

When students are applying to 15 to 20 universities and each requires a handful of supplemental essays, it’s important to know when to repurpose an essay and when to write something specific to a university.

We’ll work together to define our essay plan and look at some essays of successful students. Together we’ll discuss broad topics for each essay and what the structure of the essay should include. We’ll develop a rough timeline and order to the essays that’s a match for you application submission plan. Students will be supported through feedback and edits.

Unless decided otherwise by the student, each essay will be submitted at least three times for feedback. Initially this will begin with broad concepts and move toward more specific corrections and modifications.
